- I just upgraded my office modem to the 01/23/96 SDL, and found that
- it would not answer outside calls, even with Distinctive Ring disabled
- (S70=0). Our offices are on the University PBX, which announces
- outside calls with a long-short ring pattern. The 01/23/96 code does
- not recognize this as a valid ring pattern, and the modem never picks
- up. The 11/01/95 code worked, however.
-
- The default behavior of the 01/23/96 code is (to quote from the
- manual addendum):
-
- "If S70 is set to 0 (the default) the Courier detects ring types A and B,
- sending the result code "RING" for either ring type. This function is
- identical to that of other U.S. Robotics modems that do not support
- distinctive ring."
-
- This last statement would appear to be at odds with the observed
- behavior of the 11/01/95 (and earlier) code, which WOULD answer outside
- calls on our PBX. I've notified USR of this behavior, and mentioned
- that it would be nice if the default behavior for disabled Distinctive
- Ring would be the same as their older code versions.
